Capturing Wind: Aprille Zammit & RLR collaborate to bring exclusive ocean exhibition to the 45th Rolex Middle Sea Race
RLR Yachting, the longest established chandlery and yacht services business in Malta, are delighted to announce that this year we are hosting an exclusive exhibition in collaboration with local Maltese artist Aprille Zammit. The exhibition, Capturing Wind, will feature original works on recycled sail cloth canvas by Aprille Zammit. The exhibition marks RLR’s second project with Aprille. Both parties worked together in 2023 to create a limited edition commemorative tshirt for the Rolex Middle Sea Race, which was sold through the RLR chandlery and was a sell-out success. ‘We’re always looking for ways to show that Malta has something new and exciting to offer to visiting sailors’ says RLR’s Thomas Ripard, ‘and hosting an exhibition this year felt like a great way to bring competitors together to celebrate our sport and love of the ocean.’
Aprille’s connection to the wind began in her early childhood when windsurfing and sailing etched joy into her early memories. The wind became more than a force of nature; it was an opportunity to play and a source of wonder. As her love for sailing grew, so did her fascination with wind itself—this invisible, elusive presence that reveals itself only through its effect on the matter around it. In her series, Capturing Wind, Aprille explores this paradox: the beauty of something unseen, made visible by the way it touches and transforms the world around it. Wind fills sails, carries boats, and carves lines across the sea—graceful, fleeting moments of movement that she seeks to crystallise in her art. Her prints are attempts to freeze those ephemeral gestures in time, distilling the fluidity of the wind into static forms. Each piece is a reflection of her time spent at sea, where she feels most alive, tracing the interplay of wind and water, the elegant curves of sails, and the ever-shifting landscapes they create. Through her work, Aprille invites the viewer to sense the joy and freedom she finds in these moments, to capture the wind in shapes, colours, and lines.
Aprille Zammit is a passionate artist who channels her creativity through various mediums, with a deep affinity for film photography and screen printing. Her journey as an artist was shaped by her time at Virginia Commonwealth University in the USA, where she earned a BFA in graphic design and printmaking, and further developed her love for screen printing. After gaining professional experience in Virginia, Aprille returned to her native Malta to establish her art studio, where she now creates and offers screen printing workshops to the public.
Nature, especially the sea, serves as Aprille’s primary muse. Her work reflects a deep reverence for the natural world, evoking hope and gratitude for the beauty of the ever-changing present. Aprille’s creative process embraces experimentation and playfulness, allowing her ideas to evolve organically and fostering space for innovation. Aprille has participated in numerous collective exhibitions and is recognised as an emerging talent in the local art scene. Her pop-up exhibition, “Capturing Wind,” created in collaboration with RLR Yachting, showcases artwork inspired by her passion for windy days. Beyond her creative endeavours, she is also an avid sailor and windsurfer
